What Makes a World Record Fish?

David Hayes World Record Smallmouth Bass

Have you ever thought what makes a world record fish? Is in environment, genes, or is it the food? To me I think the number one element is environment. I’ve seen so many huge fish come out of lakes that are bigger and deeper then shallow smaller inland lakes. The deepness of the lake allows the fish to hide out, not allowing fisherman to catch them as much. Along with allowing the fish to hideout from bigger prey!

But that’s not to say there hasn’t been any world record fish that have come out of inland lakes. Down south there are some small inland lakes that hold some monster largemouth bass, so big you won’t believe your eyes. That’s where I think a good food preserve for the fish allows for them to get that big. Genetics not so much! Genetics can help, but I think that’s the last element on my list that plays the role in record fish.

Out of all the things out there, I think a good environment and plenty of food is a must for fish to get big. If you have anymore elements you can think of that helps produce world record size fish, I would like to hear down below in our comments section. This is a fun fishing topic to talk about, everyone has their own thoughts on the subject.
