Record American Eel Caught

Just recently fisherman Vasili Melnic caught a record American eel from a raft fishing the Round Valley Reservoir in Clinton Township. Just goes to show, you just never know what you might have at the end of your fishing line. “We were not expecting it at all,” Fricke said. “It took a few minutes to reel in. It fought pretty well.”

Vasili Melnic measured the eel in at 50 inches long, it would of broke the record by 8 inches, but Melnic ended up taking it home and eating it.

According to the state Fish and Wildlife Division, the state record eel was caught at Round Valley in June 2005 and was about 42 inches long.
