New War on Striped Bass

Jean Fuller has just started a new major war on the striped bass population.

He has introduced a bill (AB1253) that would remove all DFG minimum size and bag limit restrictions on the striped bass.

The Modesto Irrigation District and Kern County Water Agency is all for it! The bill asserts that as a non-native predatory species, striped bass are one of the contributing factors in the decline of Delta smelt, Chinook salmon and other endangered or threatened fish species.

Basically the bill is trying to balance the fish society in the water system. They are doing the best to protect the endangered fish populations and they are majorly failing, something has to be done and this hopefully will help.

The California Striped Bass Association is not too happy with the bill, because they have suggest once they are done targeting that species they will go after more non-native species such as the largemouth, smallmouth bass fishery, American shad, and crappie.
