Massive California Fish Kill

Estimated 1 Million Sardine Carcasses

And yet another fish die off, this time in California. The pressing issue of pollution comes to my mind, yet scientists claim this is a natural disaster.

They suggest windy conditions, predators or perhaps a column of oxygen-poor water in the ocean.

I’ve been reviewing the topic on a lot of blogs, most say it’s due to lack of oxygen supply in the water, this is formally known as red tide. Where an algae bloom sucks the oxygen right out of the water.

We just had a scare over here in Michigan, a massive die off of gizzard shad a few weeks ago over here in Michigan.

Along with a recent reporting in the Detroit Newspaper about a big algae bloom in the Great Lakes. At least in the Detroit Newspaper they admitted that “algae blooms are caused by overflows from inadequate municipal sewage treatment and septic systems, plus runoff of livestock manure and fertilizers from large farms.”

You always have to look deeper into these news topics. They give reasons “natural causes” and “lack of oxygen.”

But, the truth is what caused the lack of oxygen. The answer is algae blooms, well then what caused the algae blooms? Excessive levels of nutrients such as phosphorus from municipal sewage and large farms.

See how deep it is! No one ever said nature is easy to understand. Life is complex and I totally believe there’s a balance to everything, deep down I have a feeling that we are really screwing up that balance!
