For the first time in my entire life I got to do some fishing on my boat in the Detroit River.
The experience wasn’t that great though, I only caught a small perch. Even though it was small, it was still just a beautiful fish.
I was expecting to pick up some walleye and maybe a muskie.
My hopes weren’t that high though, it’s still fish fly season so the fish are pretty much full every where you go in southeastern Michigan.
I tried a lot of lures in my tackled box too. I tried a 8 foot diving crankbait near the shorline and the drop off point of the river. Tried a Berkley Powerbait jig, that’s what I caught my perch on. Even tried a really heavy gold jig head to reach the bottom of the river in its deepest point. Absolutely nothing! Still though, it was great to see the Detroit River from a boat’s view and not from land. And I finally get to say I fish from a boat on the Detroit River. When I get a chance I’m going to have to read up on some fishing techniques to use in the river.
Some of you Detroit River fisherman might recognize this landmark, the light house on the mouth of the Detroit River.
