Fish caught at Kent Lake

The last fishing trip I took was at Kent Lake in Milford, Michigan and boy was it fun.

We didn’t catch a ton of fish, but we caught a few big ones. The few big ones consisted of a 2 pound largemouth bass, 3 pound smallmouth bass, and a 4 pound walleye. They all faught very well, I was surprised to catch the smallmouth and walleye in such shallow of water. It wasn’t more that 10 feet deep!

I have to say Kent Lake produces some serious sized fish. I think my girflriend and I saw more than 50 fish jump out of the water that day, some of them I caught in mid air with my eyes, and boy were those fish big. When we were traveling across the lake in my new Pelican Bass Raider boat we spooked a few fish, I could tell because they left a small skirmish in the water. The one I saw was a pretty good sized pike.

Kent lake is such a great lake to fish at, but it looks like it’s now overcrowded with weeds. It was so bad that I had to move constantly because I couldn’t find anywhere to cast without the weeds, the weeds travel all the way to the top, kind of making only topwater lures available to use. I found out that spinnerbaits are the only way to go, because as your real the spinner keeps it above the weeds. Supposedly the wildlife officers at Kent Lake treated the water to kill off the weeds, I’m probably going to go back there to see how well that worked.

I think if it wasn’t so weed infested we would of caught a lot more fish. Other than the two bass and one walleye, we caught a few bluegills also.

Making the meal more appetizing, I still had a fun time. Anyone who plans on visiting Kent Lake make sure you have a good set of top water lures and spinner baits in your tackle box.
