I know the last thing on fishermen’s minds is ice fishing and cold weather. But I found this funny ass ice fishing picture and had to share it with my readers on Sportsman’s Habitat.


I really got a kick out of it, someone’s taken the old DVD cover from the movie Jaws and photoshopped it.

Firefighter Noah Wendland found the record antler sheds.

Firefighter Noah Wendland is the outdoorsman who found these massive antler sheds of the Colorado Springs record Mule Deer that kept on showing up in people’s backyards. Pictures were surfacing of the record buck all over the web.


Many outdoorsmen were waiting for the day that the antlers would come off and they’d be the ones who found the shed. One such man was Noah Wendland, he found the first antler near a steep hill. While the other one was 20 yards away at the top of the hill.

All I can say is it must of been an exciting find for Wendland. Now I’m just wondering what he’s going to do with them? Put them on Ebay for a serious amount of money or keep these babies for an amazing trophy mount. Personally with the economy being bad and all, I’d probably sell them.

But, I’m sure these antlers now have a lot of sentimental value for Noah Wendland.

Ice slowly dissipating on the Detroit River.

With the latest fishing report in the Detroit Free Press, it’s obvious that this spring is going to pretty slow for Walleye this year. Some fishermen suggest the reason is the cold water. “Two weeks ago, the water was 36, 37 degrees. Two days ago, it was back down to 33.” Another big problem was the ice that kept coming down the river.


But fishermen that reported about this are still keeping their hopes high. In a few days they are expecting the Detroit River to warm up and the big walleyes start coming down the river to spawn. It’s usually when the water hits 44-45 degrees.

My brother and I are going to be entering a walleye tournament on May 8th, I’m pretty excited. It’s the IBEW Local 58 walleye fishing tournament. My brother’s an electrician in the Local 58 Union, that’s how we heard about the walleye tournament. While I’m pretty excited, I’m kind of nervous too, this is the first fishing tournament I have ever entered.

It’s not a serious fishing tournament, $25 a person and the payout is not super huge. But it would be great to place in the top 4 to get a prize. Also the $5 per entry goes to the biggest fish caught.

My brother and his friend knows the Detroit River pretty well, so we have a decent chance of doing pretty good. I’m just hoping the river will have warmed up by the beginning of May.
