One of the largest ice fishing tournaments in the country is the “Devils Lake Ice Fishing Tourney” held annually in January. There’s around 12,000 tickets sold each year and about $190,000 in prizes given away.
This year’s winners were Andy Lange with the biggest walleye at 7.06 pounds, Allan Desrosier with the biggest northern pike at 3 1/2 pounds, and Arden Blair’s perch at 1.1 pounds. The largest fish in each category was worth $1,000.
Most the fish were pretty small other then Lange’s 7 pound walleye, it was really an anomaly many ice fishermen said.
Hopefully next year’s ice fishing tournament on Devils Lake will be just as fun. If you live in North Dakota or a close by state, you should think about participating in the ice fishing tournament next year.
It’s always great to bring the younglings along for the experience.
