Best Fishing Hook?

Mustad Fishing Hooks

With new companies surfacing every year and technology getting better, I wonder what you guys think is the best fishing hook these days? I still settle for Mustad fishing hooks myself! They are pretty strong and the barbs on the Mustang hooks are very sharp. The other feature I like on Mustad hooks is the thickness, which prevents any bending when you catch a big fish.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve encountered bending in hooks because they are not thick enough and the metal is very cheap. I remember when I bought the no name brand jigs at Lakeside Fishing Shop this past summer, a few of the hooks ended up bending after catching a bunch of smallmouth bass on Lake St. Clair. And remember once that metal bends in the hook, it becomes weaker, that’s just how metal works. Whatever company stocks Lakeside Fishing Shop with their jig hooks, man they are crappy. The metal needs to be thicker and a lot stronger!

After my experience with those jig hooks for my Berkley Powerbait, I stepped up and bought a brand name. I went with Gamakatsu jigs and they seem a lot stronger! You have to be very careful what hooks you buy these days because it’s obvious that some are a lot stronger then others. I would say just make sure you buy quality brand names!
