Bassmaster Lake St. Clair

Bassmaster Fishing Tournament

Does anyone remember back in the day when Bassmaster came to Lake St. Clair?

I actually went to one of the weigh ins, from what I remember I think Kevin Van Dam either came in 1st place or 2nd place. I also remember seeing Roland Martin there and actually getting to stand right near him.

I was pretty young at the time so I vaguely remember the fishing tournament.

I wish I new what year it was… I tried doing some research on Google but couldn’t find anything on the Bassmaster tournament.
I also tried searching for the original video on YouTube, no luck.

I think my Dad taped it, but that tape is probably long gone.

It would be really neat to see any video footage from that old tournament, also get the specs on who placed in the top three.

Well after doing some more research, I found out what year that was, it was 1994. I figured I’d try searching on Bassmaster’s own website, I wasn’t hoping for a video, but I was hoping to find out who won the tournament and the year.

The pro fisherman who won the tournament was Kim Stricker, a native of Howell, Michigan.

The article I found this information can be found here. 1994 was the first year that Bassmaster had ever come to Lake St. Clair. Really makes no sense since In-Fisherman named the lake second in the top ten spots to fish for smallmouth bass.

Makes me wonder if the lake is too big and bit too rough for bass boats. But still, when I think about most Bassmaster tournaments were held in the south back in the 90s. Hell it’s still that way I think, although I can’t say for sure since I don’t watch Bassmasters much anymore.
