Asian Carp DNA

Silver Carp, Species of Asian Carp

Scientists from the Nature Conservancy and the University of Notre Dame recently did DNA tests to determine where Asian carp have been.

In the study they took samples of fish feces, gills and other parts of fish. The report is a bit shocking, as the scientists say that DNA of the Asian Carp have already been found in Lake Michigan.

This claim obviously suggests the carp have gotten past the electric barriers at Lockport Illinois, both the bighead and silver species of carp.

Now it’s only a matter of time when the Asian carp start effecting the other native species of fish. This is displeasing news as many Congressmen and judges claimed the electric barrier would hold the fish back.

All we can do now is just hope that Asian species of carp can’t survive in the cold water environment of Lake Michigan.

But, knowing how fish can adapt, I think hope won’t float this time around.
